Gabriel Landeskog could be shut down for the season

Not the news Colorado Avalanche fans wanted to hear.

Colorado Avalanche captain Gabriel Landeskog continues to skate as he continues to rehabilitate his knee following surgery last October. However, he may not skate in any games this season.

The Avalanche Sin Bin reported on Tuesday that Landeskog had some appointments this week to check on his progress. Moreover, it could be "if" he can play rather than when" he can play.

This is sad news for Avs fans, but also not surprising. Elliotte Friedman said Landeskog would miss the rest of the regular season, while there was hope the longtime captain would be ready to return during the playoffs.

Now with this confirmed report, Landeskog's long road to recovery may have been a giant waste of time. However, the Avalanche have performed well in his absence, in a season that has seen the defending Stanley Cup champions plagued by injuries.

Now, with this new report, Landeskog may just be out the whole year and not see a single minute of action. This would be an absolute blow to Colorado’s chances as the hope was he’d be able to push it and go on in the playoffs, simply because it’s the playoffs.

Landeskog played through the playoffs last year with the injury and played terrific hockey, but could that potentially hamper him the following season? It's something to think about.
